Why bumps can appear
Threading removes hair at the root, which can leave the follicle opening temporarily reactive. Some people see tiny red dots, particularly above the lip or on the forehead. Makeup, frequent touching, sweat and irritating products may aggravate the area. Not every bump is acne; irritation and folliculitis can look similar, so avoid guessing the diagnosis from appearance alone.
What to do on the first day
Use a gentle cleanser and lukewarm or cool water. If the area feels hot, a clean cool compress for a few minutes may help comfort. Avoid rubbing, picking, facial scrubs, acid exfoliants and fragranced products until the skin settles. Choose a simple, non-irritating moisturiser if needed. Keep brushes and makeup off freshly threaded skin for as long as practical.
A Bangkok-specific problem: sweat
You may leave an air-conditioned salon and walk straight into heat and humidity. Sweat itself is normal, but wiping repeatedly with a rough towel and then applying heavy makeup can make sensitive skin unhappy. Carry a clean tissue to blot rather than rub. If your skin commonly reacts, avoid scheduling threading immediately before an intense workout or outdoor market trip.
What not to try
Do not put lemon juice, perfume, toothpaste or strong essential oils on threading bumps. They can irritate the skin and may make the problem worse. Avoid squeezing or extracting bumps at home. If you use acne prescriptions or retinoids, ask the clinician who prescribed them how to plan hair removal and when to resume treatment.
When should you seek help?
Mild redness should improve. Increasing pain, warmth, pus, swelling, fever or a spreading rash are not normal aftercare issues; seek medical advice. If you get the same reaction after every threading visit, tell the technician before the next appointment and consider a dermatologist’s advice on alternative methods.
Frequently asked questions
Can I apply aloe vera after threading?
A simple, fragrance-free aloe product may feel soothing for some people, but patch-test and stop if it stings.
Can I wear makeup straight after threading?
If you react easily, waiting until redness settles is the gentler option.
